Makers in Our Midst: Creativity and a life of purpose

This year’s program, “Makers in Our Midst,” will be centered on conversations around what it means to pursue a creative and deeply intentional life. Learn from Academy-award nominated filmmakers, award-winning theater artists, chefs, photographers, and painters how a life dedicated to a discipline can help shape a sense of purpose.

Like many Star Island conferences, Star Gathering 2 is a varied, multigenerational community. For this year’s program, we’ve chosen to foster a series of conversations within that community about what it means to live a creative and deeply intentional life. This year’s program, “Makers in Our Midst,” will include daily sessions with artists and makers from within our conference exploring their work, their habits, and the combination of discipline and dedication that leads to a successful practice. Come join this week-long conversation with Academy-award nominated filmmakers, award-winning theater artists, chefs, musicians, photographers, and painters and discover how each of these varied pursuits can contribute to a life full of meaning.

We will have a different speaker each day, all of whom are established artists or makers in their fields and long-time Star Gathering 2 conferees.  Our Ministers of the week are Rev. Adam Isbitsky, United Church of Christ, most recently legacy pastor at Second Congregational UCC, Beverly, MA, and Rev. David Clark, Associate Minister, Hancock United Church of Christ, Lexington, MA.

Our conference offers children’s programs in the morning with age-specific activities overseen by teachers, as well as separate offerings for high-school students in the evening. In the afternoon, children are free to enjoy the beach, Marine Lab, or playground–or simply pass the hours with their (soon-to-be) lifelong friends. For those seeking more structured activities, there are art programs, musical performances, and sporting events ranging from frisbee golf to tennis, as well as a host of nighttime offerings including Candy Bingo and a Costume Ball.

Contact the Registrar on the Registration page with any conference-specific questions.
